If a home visit is required please telephone between 8:30-10:30am.
Visits may be requested for a subsequent day if you are housebound.
Please only request a home visit if you are too ill or physically unable to come to the surgery.
Your telephone number will be taken to enable the doctor to contact you if he wishes; please give the receptionist as much information as possible to enable the doctor to prioritise his/her calls.
Remember the doctor can see four to five patients in the surgery in the time it takes to do a home visit.
After 11:30am only emergency visits will be taken for the same day; the duty doctor will make these house calls which may be during the afternoon or after evening surgery.
Chaperone Service
The Drayton and Wootton Street Surgeries are committed to providing a safe, comfortable, environment where the safety of both patients and staff is of paramount importance.
If you would like a chaperone present during your consultation, please advise the receptionist when booking your appointment OR when checking in.
A chaperone is present as a safeguard for both parties and is required to witness the conduct and continuing consent to the procedure being undertaken – in order to do this they will need to be able to see what examination or procedure is being undertaken.
Diabetic Clinics
We have recently made some changes to the way in which we run our Diabetic Review clinics.
You will now be invited to see one of our Health Care Assistant’s who will undertake the necessary physical checks and arrange for you to have a blood test.
Once your results have been received they will be reviewed by one of our experienced team of Practice Nurses who specialise in Diabetes.
You will then be contacted by the Diabetic Nurse and asked to attend for further review at the surgery – OR – you may be contacted for a telephone consultation by the Diabetic Nurse if there is no need for you to attend at the surgery premises.
Appointments for both the HCA’s and the Diabetic Nurse are held at both the Drayton and Wootton Street sites and you may be seen at either.
Acute Visiting Service
We may refer your home visit request to the Acute Visiting Service which is operated by the Portsmouth Primary Care Alliance and you may be asked whether you would be happy for the AVS Dr to visit.
The AVS service is staffed by Doctors who can visit patients much earlier in the day than the practice GP’s. Your usual GP will review the visit request and if they feel it is appropriate for you to be seen by AVS they will pass the visit on so that the visit can be done ASAP.
The AVS doctors complete feedback forms detailing what action they have taken, any medication issued etc. These are sent back to us electronically the same day and are then scanned into your medical records by the surgery staff and passed to your usual GP for information.

Influenza Vaccination
We run annual influenza vaccination clinics for all eligible patients. Whilst the cohorts are updated each year, this generally covers the following patient groups:
– Those aged 65 and above
– Patients between 6 months and 65 years with an underlying/long term health condition
– Pregnant ladies
– Carers
Please note that there will be conditions that need to be met to ensure that you are eligible for vaccination. You may have had the vaccine in the past but no longer be eligible under updated guidelines.
The flu vaccination season starts in October and runs until the end of March the following year.
Childhood Vaccination Clinic
Childhood vaccinations are essential to ensure your child stays healthy and avoids what can be very serious illnesses.
These are given at set intervals for the first 4 years of your child’s life and are administered by our Practice Nursing team.
We would encourage parents to have their children vaccinated in line with the schedule detailed on the Childhood Immunisations tab of this website.
Patients aged between 40 and 74 will be invited for an NHS health check. You will then be invited at each 5 year mark.
This involves bloods being taken to assess the risk of developing chronic illnesses later in life, your BMI being measured (your height and weight will be taken for this) and some general questions about your lifestyle including smoking, drinking and exercise.
Our Health Care Support Workers run these appointments.
Coils and Implants (LARC)
We offer Coil and implant clinics for long acting reversible contraception (LARC). These are run by our GPs with a special interest in Women’s Health.
Before attending for a LARC appointment you will need to have a telephone consultation with one of the GPs to ensure you are eligible.
We also run this service for other surgeries in the Portsmouth area and you will need to be referred by your own GP Surgery.
Travel Vaccinations
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below:
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
If you require vaccinations for travel, please ensure you give us plenty of notice – we require at least 6 weeks in order to ensure the vaccines are in stock and available as well as complete mandatory checks and paperwork.
